Founded the STEM Center at UNO: UNO is an urban, metropolitan institution serving the wider Omaha area, including over 15,000 students. UNO welcomes the most diverse student body of the University of Nebraska System, and serves the metropolitan area particularly surrounding community engagement activities. Of the 15,000 students at UNO, more than 1,000 of them are within a pre-health and/or science major. As such, the STEM Teaching, Research, and Inquiry-based Learning (TRAIL) Center serves to elevate human potential through lifelong learning. This Center was the only objective from the 2012-2017 STEM strategic plan that wasunmet, and as such in 2018-2019 we pursued approvals within the campus and across the system (Faculty Senate, Board of Regents, Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education, etc.) with the Center recognized as a Regent-approved Center serving the system in May of 2019. Since inception, we publish a monthly newsletter to recognize the many accomplishments of the Center. Raised $17M for these initiatives, and secured full renovation for a space to house the Center (renovation completion in January 2024).
